What to expect at your first appointment

You have your initial appointment booked with Wide Bay Therapy, now what?

Here are a few things that we would like you to know to make you feel prepared and comfortable for the process.

Before the Appointment

Before the appointment, a Service Agreement and Consent form will be emailed to you.  Please complete these online forms prior to your arrival.  The Client Engagement Team will also email you a Welcome Pack, which provides you with further information about our services. 

The Initial Assessment

The initial assessment appointment usually takes two hours to complete.  During this appointment the OT will be chatting with you about your strengths, difficulties and areas that we can assist you with.  OT’s assess the whole person, so this means we will discuss topics such as personal care tasks (showering, toileting, dressing) and domestic and community activities (shopping, paying the bills and mowing the lawn).  During this phase of the assessment, we will consider what standardised assessments will be required, which will likely be scheduled for a follow-up appointment. 

Please allow two hours for this initial appointment. If you feel you will be unable to manage this, just let our Client Engagement Team know, and we will book two one-hour appointments instead.  Depending on your circumstances will determine what steps will be made following your initial appointment.  If you are receiving a home visit for your initial appointment, please allow up to two hours.

Clinic Access and Parking

Our clinic is located at 7 Henry Street, which is just across the road from the Gympie Hospital.  We usually have on-site parking available, and there is a designated disability parking bay located at the front of the building.  The clinic is fully accessible, with a ramp and a universally accessible toilet.  We have designed the clinic to be a welcoming space, that invites you to relax and feel comfortable.  If there are any accommodations that we can make before your appointment, please let our Client Engagement Team know. 

If you cannot attend your scheduled appointment, you must provide two full working days’ notice to cancel. Cancellations within this timeframe will be charged.
